Where did the rainbow go? Five children (the Rainbow Chasers), go off in search of the rainbow and meet the Rainbow Holder who explains that the "Colors" argued with each other and fell apart.
The Chasers meet up with the Blues, the Reds and the Yellows, and each group sings about their respective color ("The Blues' Blues", "Seeing Red", "Yellow and Happy"). With the Chasers' urging, the Colors agree to return to the Rainbow Holder to re-form the rainbow. The colors are directed into the "Rainbow Machine" to create the secondary colors of the rainbow. In a joyous finale, (Rain and Sun") the colors are re-united and the rainbow rises in the sky.
This story of cooperation is ideal for younger performers, grades 1-4, and would be especially appropriate for a mixed 1-2 or 2-3 class. Written for a cast of 35 the script can be easily adapted for smaller or larger cast sizes. There are seven musical numbers. The running time is 25-30 minutes.
